Where are the company's offices located?

Executive Chefs are responsible for delivering the finest cuisine and ensuring a positive culinary experience at every meal by managing the entire kitchen staff. A "hands-on" and challenging position, the Executive Chef will be involved with every dish served to our guests, from general planning to presentation. The Cruise & Excursions Director is a hybrid role responsible for engaging guests both aboard and ashore. The goal is to create a fun atmosphere for our guests while socializing throughout the cruise. The Assistant Hotel Manager is responsible for providing support to the Hotel Manager.

Prior to his current role, Gary started as a Server onboard the American Heritage, then in 2021 he was rehired as a Guest Service Coordinator and promoted to Excursions Director in 2022. Crew members can be assigned up to twelve roommates, depending on the ship, while Senior Officers (Hotel General Managers, Executive Chefs, and Captains) have a private stateroom and bath. After successfully completing our shoreside training program, you become eligible for a ship assignment. Although we do not guarantee a specific ship for your employment, we try to match you with the best fit.

The Guest Service Coordinator is responsible for welcoming guests, executing service requests, and supporting the Hotel Manager in all the ship’s office functions. Engine Room Attendants (ERA) are responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of all vessel machinery, equipment, and systems. Attendants perform liquid load transfers, watering, refueling, and used oil disposal, and report directly to the shipboard Mate daily. Whether it’s witnessing the wildlife and magnificent views of Alaska or experiencing the rich history and culture of the Mississippi River, as a member of our crew, everyday will offer you a new opportunity. Our Sous Chefs assist the Executive Chef with many day-to-day responsibilities and the supervision of all aspects of food production, as well as oversee our Galley Stewards. Dishwashers are responsible for the sanitation of the kitchen and all cutlery, glassware, and dishes. They also help to ensure that our galley is maintained in a pristine and safe manner.

The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our ship’s cleanliness, maintaining brand standards, and exceeding guest expectations in the staterooms. They lend support as needed and provide clear direction for the housekeepers. Servers are responsible for creating an excellent guest experience beyond serving by acknowledging guests by name, escorting them to their tables, as well as providing kind and efficient service. Sarah has been with American Cruise Lines since the American Melody’s inaugural cruise in 2021 as an Excursions Director and moved into the Regional Manager of Guest Programs role in 2023.

Managers and officers work a schedule of several weeks on, several weeks off, with longer shifts during the busy season (summer and fall). After accepting a position, we will work with you to schedule your start date and organize your travel to the ship. Breaks can be prearranged with advance notice, as we need to make sure that our staffing needs are continually met. Once you have completed your time with us, we will help you with your travel arrangements to get you back home safely. Our home office is located in Guilford, CT with our sister office in Sandy, UT. Our ships travel throughout the East Coast, West Coast, Mississippi River, and Alaska.

Peter is one of our deckhands and when asked what he enjoys most about working for American Cruise Lines he said, “The crew, the guests, the places we stop at, and the work we get to do is all so exciting! The Hotel General Manager will lead the hotel and food service teams, while ensuring our guests are provided with the highest level of service in a clean and safe environment. For the past 15 weeks of her journey with American Cruise Lines, she has proven herself to be an extremely dedicated and valuable employee. Having her on our shipboard team makes the difference, especially for our guests. Her favorite memory is jet skiing in Richland, WA and her favorite itinerary is the Columbia and Snake River Cruise.

Congratulations to our very own Kim Swartzenberg, who is a Senior Cruise Specialist in our Sandy, UT office. Kim started her journey with us 5 ½ years ago when our UT office first opened and has been a driving force within our sales team. When asked what she enjoys most about her role, she responded, “It’s hard to narrow down my favorite part of this job. There are few things better than hearing “I’ve always dreamed of doing something like this” and being a part of making that happen. The company is wonderful to work for and I leave every day feeling like I accomplished something.
